The sim is set in an alternate version of history; one where supernaturals have been hiding alongside humans for ages, and several moments have broken from our own history to create the world of Callisto. Although we have tried to go in depth on other pages for those interested in diving in to deeper lore, this is what all players need to be aware of when creating their characters.

The Setting

• Callisto is a world where supernaturals have existed for an eternity in secret alongside humanity. With the fall of the first Seal, across the globe, supernaturals have begun to expose their existence. 

• Approximately a century ago, the first Seal that kept magic and magical creatures bound to the Pact was broken. When that seal fell, it broke the boundaries between life and death, leading to a rise in ghosts, ghouls and the restless dead.

The Location

• Callisto is an artificial island in the pacific that was founded as a joint venture between England and Japan to harvest  valuable aetherite from the sea bed and now stands technically neutral territory.

Alternate History

• It is currently 2044 but the sim deviated strongly from our real world history back around the late 1800s. Any of our mentors are happy to answer specific questions but the short, short version is that around the time of vacuum tube technology, aether tech became the driving power rather than the rush to split the atom.

Technology

• The dominant energy driving technological advances is the aether crystal - aetherite; formations of raw energy that form along leylines. Callisto is especially known for the purity of their crystal exports mined from deep below the island. 

• It is not uncommon to see vacuum tube or steam based technology alongside sleek and futuristic technomantic creations like vid screens and aetherphones.

The Supernatural World

• While humanity has become aware of the basic existence of the supernatural world most details are obfuscated. Ancient creatures still prefer to often work from the shadows and certainly no one wants their weaknesses spread far and wide. 

• The Academy is known to be one of, if not the premiere university dedicated to the study of magic with admissions and the secrets of the floating islands heavily guarded by those admitted into its hallowed halls.
